Ashtanga Yoga Intensive Training
Starting September 11 2020
200 hour Intensive Training
Our program is designed to create competent, articulate, compassionate yogis who carry an authentic understanding of what yoga means, how it works, and how to share it with integrity.
WITH THOUSANDS OF YOGA TRAININGS OFFERED FROM ONLINE AND AROUND THE WORLD WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT???
Our program works directly with professors from the Maharaja’s Sanskrit College in Mysore India, which is the epicenter of all Vinyasa yoga practice worldwide.
Some of our lecturers come from a family of Sanskrit scholars that goes back at least 500 years and which belongs to the same sect of Brahmins that Sri Krishnamacharya (the father of modern yoga) came from.
Mysore Yoga Traditions is an insightful documentary about yoga in Mysore which was directed and produced by Andrew Eppler This film dives deeper into the fabric of Indian culture than any other film to date.
Comprehensive curriculum including functional anatomy and physiology, ancient philosophy, healing techniques and hands on experience so you walk out with skills and confidence in your knowledge.
You will learn foundational sequences from which you can create customized sequences on the spot if needed. You will also learn to recognize patterns of imbalance in the bodies of students, and be given tools to ensure their safety. While staying grounded in a traditional philosophy and classical yoga sequences we will also explore a global fusion of techniques.
HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY
We focus on the historical aspect of yoga in an effort to give our students a correct, accurate, and up to date understanding of the history of yoga.
You also gain an accurate and authentic understanding of yoga philosophy, not only by reading books, but by speaking directly with experts in the field from India and Europe.
Our graduates can say with confidence that they have studied a classical form of yoga and that they are practicing in an ancient tradition.
Our Three Pillars
Anatomy & Physiology
History & Philosophy
OUR TEACHING METHOD
We focus on hands on skills. Everyone will be adjusting in postures and being adjusted as well as calling out postures verbally throughout the program so that these skills become natural and we can speak with confidence. We will guide you to find and cultivate the center from which your voice comes from when you are speaking about yoga.
Our training will include a thorough understanding of the postures, Vinyasa counts, adjustments and modifications in the Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary and Intermediate Series. These sequences are highly adaptable and have a strong influence on many other forms of yoga.
The safety aspects of adjusting will be discussed in detail. You will learn how and when it is appropriate to adjust as well as when it is not. We will teach you the anatomical markers by which you can assess a body, whether it is your own or someone else's. You will also learn the language of yoga anatomy and learn about preventing and working with injuries. At the end of the training everyone will have thoroughly memorized not only the Ashtanga Series, but the Sanskrit names of the postures, and all aspects of practicing postures and adjusting them smoothly and safely with confidence.
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
Do you find it boring to memorize complicated muscles from diagrams? Our approach is to use Functional Anatomy. You will experience what the muscles we are learning about actually do in your body and also what happens if they become too strong or too weak. We give you many tools for assessing the symmetry and stability of your own or anyone else's body and methods of correcting imbalances.
Graduates of the program will have many techniques to work with and an introduction to bodywork that is very useful to help understand posture adjustments. We believe a competent yoga practitioner should be able to discern correct methodology when they are experiencing pain and difficulty in postures. Our training gives you the experience and tools you need to do this.
HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY
Our Intensive Training has an excellent philosophy and history section. We will learn philosophy not only from books but directly with Sanskrit scholars from Mysore India who belong to the exact same sect that Sri Krishnamacharya came from. We will look at the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali Sutras from both eastern and western perspectives through a series of Skype lectures with experts from around the world.
We want our students to graduate with an articulate and accurate perspective on what yoga means, both historically and today in our own paradigm. We will look carefully at the history of yoga and give you an overview of how yoga has evolved into its current form. You will have a clear understanding of which parts of yoga are ancient and which parts of it are modern, how old the techniques you are practicing and sharing with others are, and where they came from. We give the most current information based on the latest research in this field.
