THE STORY OF OUR CONFERENCE
Mysore Yoga Traditions began with a film. Our teacher Sri BNS Iyengar agreed to let us make a documentary about him on his 90th birthday, so we prepared to do so. The importance of documenting the great wisdom he shares has always felt like a priority. Before we could interview him, Guruji changed his mind and decided he did not want to make a documentary about himself. Because of this we began to look around Mysore for other people to interview and with the help of dear friends and an enormous amount of luck we secured interviews with many of the top Sanskrit professors from the Maharaja's Sanskrit College, including the principle and other respected yogis and spiritual leaders as well. We even managed to interview the Queen of Mysore.
Mysore Yoga Traditions Film was created from those initial interviews. It was a life changing experience for all of us! To speak directly to the Sanskrit community opened our eyes to the treasure of knowledge and spiritual practice that exists in Mysore. As long time Ashtanga Yoga practitioners, many of our questions about the history and background of our style of practice were answered and the answers were very surprising. We simply decided that this should be an ongoing conversation and that as many yoga practitioners as possible should have the opportunity to experience the Sanskrit scholars of Mysore! Yoga has changed our lives in so many ways and we feel it is important to connect with the tradition that it has come from. What better way to do so than speaking directly with the whole community? Mysore Yoga Traditions has always been a labor of love and we feel it can give a very special gift to the international yoga community.
MYSORE HOLDS MANY SECRETS! EXPERIENCE THE RICHNESS AND BEAUTY OF MYSORE'S YOGA COMMUNITY FIRST HAND.
We believe that learning the philosophy of yoga directly from the elders of Mysore can help us come closer to the tradition that many of the yoga practices around the world came from.
The Yoga of Mysore has been the subject of much debate. Many yoga practitioners have questions and this is an opportunity to speak directly to people who are fully qualified to answer them.
The compassion, sincerity, academic brilliance, and deep reverence for yoga and all spiritual practice among the scholars of Mysore will warm your heart.
THE SCHOLARS OF MYSORE HAVE VAST KNOWLEDGE OF ALL PHILOSOPHY BOTH EASTERN AND WESTERN. THEIR MESSAGES CAN TRULY INSPIRE US AND EVOLVE OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE YOGA WE LOVE TO PRACTICE.

Andrew Eppler, the director and producer of Mysore Yoga Traditions Film, is working together with Swami M.A. Alwar of the Samskriti Foundation in Mysore to create this unique yoga experience. Dr. Alwar has taught for many years at the Maharaja's Sanskrit College and with his help we have created a superb experience as East meets West in a sincere discussion about yoga.

2023 SCHEDULE WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON!

Yoga has always been a contentious subject in both the academic world and among practitioners as well. We often debate what is traditional or what is ancient in yoga. As research continues new ideas emerge. For people who love to practice yoga and who would like to learn about the philosophy and tradition behind it, this conference provides an incredible educational opportunity! Guided by renowned scholars, we will take a close look at the cultural views and ideas associated with yoga. We will explore the tradition of Mysore's yoga from the inside. Much study has been done by foreign academics on the history of yoga in Mysore. Mysore Yoga Traditions Conference gives an opportunity to speak with scholars and yogis who grew up in Mysore and, in some cases, even attended yoga classes with Sri Krishnamacharya as young boys. Their first hand information gives great insight into the culture of Mysore's yoga community.
